Women’s Kurti - The Pride Of India

Indian kurtis, as the name suggests, is the traditional women wear of India, and who does not know of India’s greatness and admire its culture? India is a country of diversity and so are its elements. So, whatever that is made in India, comes in different forms, and each individual form is being influenced by the various culture and traditions of modern India.

Kurtis - one of the favorite attire of Indian women, have come into existence just a while ago. There is no evidence of this outfit for women being worn in all the old books and reserves of our culture. Basically, a kurti is something which is derived out of a kurta. A kurta is a long and loose tunic which is donned by both the men and the women of India. But kurti is that piece of clothing which is only worn by women of India and neighboring countries like Pakistan, Nepal, etc.

Nowadays, teens are preferring kurtis as well. They are considered as the best outfit for parties, events or casual wearing due to their comfort factor and also they are versatile and can be worn during any season, be it summers or winters. In summers, people prefer to wear clothes that absorb the sweat and are comfortable to the skin. Therefore, kurtis made up of cotton fabric come to the rescue. While on the other hand, during the winter season, people tend to wear clothes that help them stay warm and cozy. For this, kurtis made of some other warm fabric like silk or cotton can be worn.

The culture and religion of the woman wearing the kurti influence its designs and patterns. For instance, the kurtis worn in Punjab are bright in colour and are worn with Punjabi juti and a lot of heavy jewelry. Similarly, people in West Bengal wear the kurtis usually in red or white colour, and mostly long in their structure. Ladies generally love to wear kurtis during, festive occasions, weddings, prarties, social meetings or even while doing regular chores at home. Also, the popularity of the kurtis is not only limited to India, but they have also made their name in foreign countries such as the United States of America and Canada. No women can say no to the idea of wearing them on various occasions as they are so comfortable to wear and gentle to skin.

There are various styles of kurtis related to different states and cultures. A few among those kurti styles are Anarkali kurtis, Patiala salwar kurti, shirt style kurti, tail cut kurti, high low kurti, boat neck kurti etc. A lot of Bollywood actresses tour to western countries for shows, performances or movie promotions, due to which the western audience is exposed to the culture and the clothing traditions of India. Hence, they adopt the clothing style, although not exactly, but in their own ways by adding up their styles, patterns and colours which can also reflect their own culture.
